Brain-based Coaching

Dr. Sweeton offers brain-based coaching to professionals looking to quickly address mindset challenges, shift unhelpful beliefs, and manage difficult relationships that limit success. If you’ve found it difficult to break out of old mental models, and you’re ready to try something new, brain optimization coaching may be for you.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice….”

Steve Jobs

What is brain optimization coaching helpful for?

Using principles and techniques from Neural Desensitization and Integration Training, brain optimization coaching tackles the following:

  • Unrelenting self-criticism
  • Imposter syndrome
  • Mindset roadblocks that limit creativity and success
  • Detrimental self-talk
  • Unhealthy relationships (with money, colleagues, “energy vampires,” or individuals with strong narcissistic or antisocial traits)

What can I expect after coaching?

Once you’ve learned how to access, activate, and change the neural networks that have been stifling your success, you may find that you can…..

  • “Toughen up” more easily than before
  • Reduce repetitive, racing, distressing thoughts
  • Shift your attention to more helpful perspectives when needed
  • Pursue your life’s purpose with more clarity
  • Feel confident
  • Become a better leader
  • Address limiting beliefs and emotions before they wreak havoc on your life

How does brain optimization coaching work?

Brain optimization coaching is an approach to cognitive and emotional change rooted in decades of neuroscience research. This therapy model follows the principles of Neural Desensitization and Integration Training (NDIT), originally created as a psychotherapy for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder. And although brain-based coaching is not therapy, and does not treat mental disorders, the tools and techniques of NDIT can be helpful for facilitating many types of healthy brain change, not just recovery from trauma.
Additionally, while some other coaching programs assert to be neuroscience-based, NDIT is the only approach of its kind that was developed by a doctor with specialized neuroscience training and an advanced degree in neuroscience.

Here’s how it works.

The starting point is this:

It’s all in your head.

This is actually good news, that your problems, in large part, are attributable to YOU. Because if they weren’t, you’d have very little power to solve them.

The problem isn’t that you’re weak, or inadequate, or not meant to achieve your fullest potential.
For many people, the problem is that they have *one* problematic neural network in the brain that is overriding and dominating the more helpful, adaptive networks.

What this means is that even though you may know, rationally, that you are successful, or that you’re good at what you do, or that you don’t need to remain in a poverty mindset, you somehow find yourself acting out old and outdated beliefs, or feeling stressed and fearful even when things are going well.

Maybe you’ve done the affirmations. The positive self-talk. Hypnosis. You’ve gone to the motivational presentations and followed the advice doled out by pop psychology. And yet, there’s a sense that your brain and your heart can’t seem to get on the same page.
What you believe, or what you want to believe, you can’t seem to feel, or at least not all the time. And these old feelings can play out, subtly, unconsciously, as self-sabotaging behaviors that you only recognize after the fact, when you’ve lost an important opportunity.

But the problems isn’t that your brain and heart are misaligned; it’s that your neural networks are at war. The battle is within the brain, within the networks that create our thoughts, emotions, and day-to-day experience. Unfortunately, for many people, the self-sabotaging neural network is often the most powerful. And, frustratingly, it probably didn’t start with you.

So what do we do? The goal is to strategically target the unhelpful network, helping you…

  • identify it,
  • understand it,
  • monitor it, and then
  • shift it so that it works for you, not against you.

Every trait, every tendency, every neural network, has a dark side and a light side. The goal of NDIT isn’t to obliterate neural networks, but to react differently to them, restructure them, eliminate the damage they can cause, and magnify the hidden superpowers they offer. When you can do this, you may notice the battle within quieting, and can enjoy what it feels like for your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to finally align.

And, this resonance sets the stage for improved productivity, success, clarity, and ultimately, happiness.

How do I start?

Request an initial Congruence Consultation with Dr. Sweeton, where you’ll do the following:

  • Create a neural mapping of potentially problematic neural network(s)
  • Identify some of the most salient internal components of the neural network, including the strongest emotions, experiences, thoughts, and sensations contained in the network
  • Learn about the NDIT process and what to expect
  • Collaborate to create a customized coaching plan based on your schedule, resources, and goals

To apply for NDIT coaching, contact Dr. Sweeton’s assistant, and state in your inquiry that you are interested in initiating coaching services. Prior to reaching out, please review the coaching fee structure.
